Best Acne Treatment Cream

Currently acne treatments products have combination of a cleanser and an acne cream. The most important parts of treating acne is killing of the bacteria that cause the pimples, and healing and calming the skin without making the acne itself worse. That is a very tough challenge, and most companies resort to harsh chemicals to “try” to get the job done. The main ingredient used to kill the acne causing bacteria. As an additional benefit, Resveratrol is a very powerful antioxidant, which can help get the toxins out of the skin too, which boosts the products’ ability to clear acne even further. Resveratrol’s use in Dermajuv’s acne products have nothing to do with the whole “anti aging buzz” surrounding this ingredient, but hey, it’s pretty cool to know that you are not only clearing up your acne, but also giving your skin a powerful anti aging treatment as well.

The acne cream, in addition to the resveratrol, contains Niacinimide and Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate to naturally and almost immediately begin clearing and healing the acne.

Acne Laser Treatment - Are You Interested In Laser Surgery for Acne?

By Mike Singh

There are so many options for acne treatment on the market. On one end there are several different types of medication and topical treatments, on the other there are various different natural or organic products. But, do all these products work? Well, most of these products do deliver on their promises. But, the key point being that there is no one size fits all solution in the area of acne treatment. This is understandable because everyone doesn't have the same skin type either. To address these needs various different laser treatment providers have sprung up all over the place.

A quick recap of how pimples are formed

Our skin has tiny pores connected to oil producing glands underneath the skin. These glands produce oils that moves dead skin cells to the skin surface. The 'pipe' that is connecting the pore to the gland clog up due to excess oil production. This results in the formation of pimples. There are different varieties of this problem and each has a different name - blackheads, whiteheads, acne vulgaris, acne rosacea etc. You will definitely want to consult a dermatologist to understand your condition.

Now, coming back to our main discussion. The procedure for the laser treatment is fairly straightforward. A very powerful, high-speed and extremely accurate laser is controlled by the laser technician. So, what does the beam do? The beam destroys the specific excess oil producing glands that are under the skin and destroy any existing bacteria in these areas.

Sounds simple enough. Now, you might be wondering if this is all there is to it. Well of course not. As with any other medical procedure you should be aware of certain drawbacks of laser treatment.

* At times, one treatment isn't enough. It's hard to predict whether all the excess oil producing glands and bacteria have been taken care of. So, you might have to go through the procedure a couple of times till you are able to achieve the desired result.

* The other problem is that this treatment is expensive. The cost ranges depending on the experience of the provider, quality of the laser facilities etc. So, bear in mind that this might not be a one-time deal when you are shopping for laser treatment providers.

So, there you have it. Both sides of the story. While it is easy to measure the drawbacks in monetary terms, it is hard to measure how much the self-esteem of the individual is raised once this procedure is completed successfully. That feeling is one word - priceless!

Botulinum Toxin Injection - Botox

Botox is now one of America's favorite procedures to keep wrinkles at bay.

Injections of Botox, a purified product of the bacterium that causes botulism, was one of the single most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States in 2004, when doctors performed more than 2.8 million Botox injections. Unlike injectable fillers, which add volume to plump up wrinkles, Botox is injected into a muscle, blocking nerve signals that make the muscle contract. This weakens or paralyzes the muscle, causing the wrinkle to smooth out or disappear. The most popular sites for Botox injections are the forehead, frown lines, crow's feet, and vertical neck bands. Incidentally, Botox is only FDA approved for frown lines; other uses are considered "off label."

Pain Level/Recovery Time: The injections take only a few minutes and you can return to your regular routine right away. The effects may become apparent immediately, or they may take three to four days. Complete results typically are evident in a week. However, wrinkles may return within 120 days. Most patients return for repeat treatments every four to six months to maintain the effects. In addition, Botox may carry some side effects. These include bruising, redness, headache, flulike symptoms, drooping eyelids, and nausea.

Choosing Best Acne Product

Acne affects close to 80% of the American population at some point or another. Because of the wide range of acne products available in the market, most acne sufferers have problems deciding which acne product to use for treatment. In fact, prior to consulting a dermatologist, most would first use over the counter drugs and medications.
Dermatologists often advise the use of such acne products (example Neutragena, Eucerin, Aquanil, Cetaphil and Extra Gentle Cleanser) if your case is severe. They will however, usually discourage the use of rough cleansers and scrubs. Also, vigorous rubbing of the skin is best avoided as these may create further irritation and may eventually lead to more acne.

To be able to select the best suitable acne product for yourself, you must learn how to read labels. That is, you have to acquire an understanding of the ingredients of the acne medications. Also, you have to identify which ingredients and which acne products work best for your type of skin.
Benzoyl peroxide, a common ingredient contained in most acne medications are effective in reducing the acne infecting bacteria termed as the "Propionibacterium acnes". These are known to clog the pores while creating acne lesions. Moderate cases of acne are usually treated with such over the counter medications. Some of these medications also remove dead skin cells, thus preventing the appearance of comedones. They have been highly regarded among experts for decades now and is still rising in popularity as a safe way of clearing acne form the skin. However, the only serious side effect from using benzoyl peroxide is abnormal dry skin.

Another acne product that is noted to obstruct the quick shedding of the skin and the clogging of the skin pores is salicylic acid. This does not reduce the presence of the natural oil , but it prevents the formation of lesions in the hair follicles.
It is advisable that you continue using these two acne products even after the severity of the skin disease disappears to minimize the likelihood of future acne breakouts. However, over time, it is a good idea to cut down the usage of these products once you have no more acne.

The effective ways to determine which product, from the multitude of acne products available, is to distinguish the result of the active ingredients. Take note of what they do to your skin. It is recommended to avoid alcohol and oil-base products as these may either dry your skin extremely or add to the problem of excess oil. As you experiment with acne products, take note which leaves a soft feel and which results to itchiness and irritation.
Make it a habit to apply only small amounts at the beginning of each acne treatment. Also, pay close attention to the acne products for which your skin reacts constructively.

There is really no way round selecting the best acne product other than understanding what the ingredients in each product are for and through experimenting which works best for your skin condition. In time, after due diligence and careful analysis, you will be able to determine the best acne product for yourself.

Skin Care Tips To Give You Radiant Skin

Author: Kerri Stalton

Most skin care products and treatments target specific problems like blemishes, enlarged pores, dryness, wrinkles, or sagging. This can lead to the erroneous belief that clear, firm, smooth skin is always at its best. However, the people who benefit the most from many skin treatments and facial masks are people who already have healthy skin and want to make it even more radiant. An intensive moisturizing session or a fruit based mask full of valuable nutrients can infuse your face with a beautiful glow you may never even have dreamed of. People with healthy skin don't always realize that there is more they can do to play up this feature. If you have good skin, it is time to ask yourself what you can do to make it great.

One mask that works wonders on a clear, smooth complexion is a simple mixture of two teaspoons of milk and two tablespoons of honey. To try this relaxing treatment, steam your pores open by letting your face hover a few inches above the surface of a bowl filled with boiling water. Add a few teaspoons of an aromatic herb like lavender for an exquisite scent, and drape a towel over your head to stop the steam and the scent from escaping. Close your eyes and breathe deeply for five to ten minutes. This will open your pores, which makes it possible for your mask to penetrate deeply into your skin and deliver the moisture and nutrients that will increase your skin's glow. Apply the honey and milk mixture with your fingertips, smoothing it over your face and throat. Relax for ten to fifteen minutes, letting this sweet mask do its work. Then, rinse away the mixture with warm water, splash your face with cool water to snap your pores shut again, and gently pat your skin dry.

Use this honey mask or another relaxing all natural mask treatment on a weekly basis to help bring your skin to a new level of beauty. By putting a bit of extra effort into caring for your skin, you can turn your healthy complexion into a tremendous beauty asset. Beauty trends come and go, but great skin is always in style, so making sure your skin is at its peak radiance is always worth the trouble. By taking just twenty minutes once a week to help your skin stay replenished and vibrant, you can look forward to compliments on your skin every single day.

Lotion for Skin

Somebody said that it is easy to make lotion especially for your skin. And again it is so cheap and organic that I wondered why anyone would even consider spending a dime on the chemical rich lotions on the market. Did you ?

Besides I had an added incentive, I have eczema, so I am extremely sensitive to what I put on my skin. Making my own lotion was a great alternative for me.

Here what I have learn to make an easy skin lotion. Lets start, first of all for a lotion base all you need is water, oil and an emulsifier. An emulsifier is simply an ingredient that blends the water and oil together. Here is the base that I begin with to make my lotion:

# cup distilled water cup oil (I usually use olive, almond, macadamia nut, or grape seed) 1 TBS liquid lecithin

You can experiment from here by adding essential oils, combining other oils; you can steep beneficial herbs into your water before you add your oil, etc?

Here is a nice winter lotion to get you started:

# cup distilled water cup olive oil 1 TBS lecithin 6-8 drops of geranium oil 2-4 drops Myrrh oil 400 IU Vitamin E oil (1-2 open capsules)

Geranium oil is good for supporting balance and rejuvenating dry skin conditions and for wrinkled and matured skin. Myrrh is a gentle oil that is effective in replenishing moisture.

Vitamin E oil is an excellent antioxidant and helps to protect the skin as well as a nice preservative.

Blend all ingredients in the blender either on whip or cream. You will have a nice creamy firm lotion. Add more water to make a lighter lotion. Store in the refrigerator in hot climates or store in a cool place. Shake well before use.

Enjoy your lotion. Hopefully this little recipe will inspire you to become creative.

Guide to Skin Creams

When the results of time and sun exposure start to show, many women turn to lotions, creams, and skincare "systems." But do these formulations work?
From Harvard Women's Health Watch

As we get older, our skin undergoes changes that make it feel, act, and look different from younger skin. Its outer cells don't slough off as easily, it doesn't retain as much moisture as it once did, and its support fibers, collagen and elastin, break down. Plus the sun takes its toll. The result is most obvious in our faces, where fine lines appear around the mouth and eyes and the skin sags a bit with the pull of gravity.

The FDA doesn't regulate cosmetic claims, which are allowed without scientific substantiation. Cosmetics can promise to "firm" or "repair" skin or to make you "look younger," and these benefits needn't be proven. But only a few substances have a demonstrated ability to reduce or prevent wrinkles, and even those effects are modest. Fortunately, most skin-care products contain harmless ingredients. Their biggest offense may be their price.

Moisturizers

No moisturizer can make wrinkles disappear or prevent new ones from forming, and none can stop the effects of gravity or photoaging -- the type of aging caused by exposure to sunlight. However, moisturizers can soothe dry skin and temporarily make wrinkles less noticeable.

Petroleum jelly is probably the most effective and least expensive moisturizer, because it coats the skin and seals in moisture. But most women dislike using it on their faces because of its greasy look and feel. Creams (which generally contain more oil than water) and lotions (which are more water-based than creams) are a better choice because of their water content. Many moisturizers are humectants, an oil-free class of moisturizer that reduces the loss of water by binding it to the skin. This helps prolong the product's softening effects.

Most moisturizers contain water, glycerin, petrolatum, stearic acid, and lanolin. Two other common ingredients, propylene glycol and sorbital, both bind moisture to the skin and repel it, canceling out any benefit. Consequently, the American Academy of Dermatology suggests avoiding them. Some skin creams contain botanical ingredients, such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, safflower oil, and linoleic acid, which help maintain the skin's outer protective layer and the natural oils that keep the skin supple. Manufacturers use acetyl alcohol, palmitic acid, and dimethicone to give moisturizers a velvety or translucent look and feel.

Vitamins and Antioxidants

In practice, there's no proof that topically applied vitamins or antioxidants do much at all. Nor is it known whether they remain active long enough to prevent cell damage, promote new collagen production, or confer other benefits.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), for example, quickly loses potency when exposed to the air. Thus, it's unlikely that vitamin C in skin creams offers much benefit. Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) is believed to improve the appearance of scars and help speed wound-healing, but there's no evidence that it does. And in some people, topical vitamin E causes allergic reactions.
Most studies have examined vitamins C and E as potential ingredients in sunscreens rather than as agents meant to reduce or prevent wrinkles. They've demonstrated some effectiveness against UVA and UVB damage. But only vitamins taken internally qualify as antioxidants.

Exfoliants

Aging skin often looks rough and sallow because it doesn't slough off dead surface skin cells as easily as younger skin. Exfoliant ingredients added to moisturizers address this situation, improving the appearance of the skin by removing these cells.

Two chemical exfoliants, alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, lower the skin's pH level; this is believed to renew the skin more effectively than many scrubs, masks, soaps, toners, or abrasive cloths.

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs are obtained from fruits, including grapes, citrus fruits, and apples. Look for glycolic acid, lactic acid, malic acid, hydroxycaprylic acid, alpha-hydroxyoctanoic acid, triple fruit acid, or sugar-cane extract on the label. AHAs can also cause skin irritation and may increase sensitivity to UV radiation. The FDA has cautioned consumers to use only products that contain an AHA concentration of 10% or less and a pH of 3.5 or more (lower pH numbers are more acidic), and to apply a sunscreen along with AHA-containing products.

AHAs, particularly glycolic acid, are used in chemical peels in concentrations of 20%-30% or higher. An FDA review panel concluded that cosmetologists or skin aestheticians can safely use glycolic acid and lactic acid at concentrations not greater than 30% and with a pH not lower than 3.0 for brief skin-care sessions, provided that thorough rinsing and daily sun protection follow. In higher concentrations, AHAs should be applied only by physicians.

Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). BHAs are chemically distinct from AHAs and are believed to smooth skin without some of AHAs' irritating effects. The most widely used BHA is salicylic acid, and like its relative aspirin, it has antiinflammatory properties. It also doesn't penetrate as deeply as AHAs do. Moreover, salicylic acid is more effective than AHAs for exfoliating oily areas of the skin, making it useful if you have oily skin or problems with adult acne.

BHAs and salicylic acid can be found in many acne products at effective levels of 1.5%-2%. But anti-wrinkle products containing these ingredients tend not to list the percentage on their labels, so it's difficult to know whether they contain sufficient amounts to be effective. Other BHAs include beta-hydroxybutanoic acid, tropic acid, and trethocanic acid.

The FDA recommends that BHAs first be used on a small patch of skin, to see whether irritation occurs, and that you use a sunscreen with BHA products, as they can increase the skin's sun sensitivity.

Wash Your Face Oftenly

By Jason Rickard
Gentle cleansing is really important in treating and preventing acne. It can also prevent further irritation. If you can see that your face shows signs of irritation and reddening, then it could easily lead to breakouts. To make sure that you have a mild cleanser, look for words like “oil-free”, “hypoallergenic”, “dermatologically tested” or “non-comedogenic”. Some mild cleansers could also contain some medications like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, which are good components in fighting acne. There are tons of beauty regimens that you can readily purchase from drugstores that can help you prevent acne. The long list can be really overwhelming but if there is one classic and effective way of combating acne, that would be the power of cleaning your face with water and mild cleansers.

There are three types of mild cleansers that you can choose from. These include wipe-off cleansers, mild soaps and water-soluble cleansers. Make-up removers and cold creams fall under the category of wipe-off cleansers. In choosing soaps as cleansers, choose those that say “mild” or “non-drying”. It is also important that your cleansing soap should contain moisturizers to lock on moisture to your skin. Water-soluble cleansers are the gentlest cleansers amongst the three types of cleansers.

It is advisable to wash your face every morning when you wake up and before you head off to sleep to wash the day’s pollution and residues off your face. Do not scrub your face with hard towels, washcloths or scrubbers. Scrubbing is unnecessary because dirt in itself is not the main cause of the acne at all. Be gentle with your skin, not fight with it. You can use your bare hands to gently massage through your face. Remember not to overdo washing, excessive washing can strip of natural oils of your skin and can dry them.

After washing, pat dry your face with a soft towel. Do not rub off the water from your face. Rubbing can cause reddening and can irritate your skin as well. When your skin dries, then you can put on any medication that is recommended by your dermatologists. Even if you were no longer actively using a treatment, cleansing you face properly would surely chase that acne away.

Ocular Rosacea Treatment - And How Rosacea Differs From Acne

Rosacea (pronounced Rose Ay sha) sufferers must be very frustrated people. They have to live with an extremely uncomfortable, embarrassing and disfiguring condition. Worst of all, when they visit a doctor for help, they are often given inappropriate medication which in many cases makes things much worse.

How Does This Happen?

Before we look at how many doctors get it so wrong, let's examine rosacea itself. There are two types of rosacea. Acne rosacea (which is an erroneous term as we shall see), and ocular rosacea. Sufferers of rosacea have red, flushed skin. Papules break out on their nose, forehead and cheeks. If they drink alcohol, eat hot or spicy food or increase their body temperature, they suffer severe flushing of the face. Their facial skin is usually dry and flaking.

What Is Ocular Rosacea Treatment ?

60% of people who have rosacea develop similar problems affecting their eyes. This is called ocular rosacea. These people have dry, burning, red, sore eyes, and irritated eyelids, with frequent styes. They constantly feel as if there is something in their eye.

In severe cases there may be ulceration of the cornea - the clear layer of the eye, covering the iris and pupil. This is extremely painful, and if left untreated, may lead to perforation of the eye and blindness.

Treatment for ocular rosacea should involve daily cleansing of the eyelid with cotton buds, paying particular attention to the base of the lashes. It is there that debris and oily secretions gather. An antibiotic ointment can be used with caution, and continued if it is successful. The best treatment for ocular rosacea is tetracyclic antibiotics.

Ocular rosacea often includes dry eye syndrome. This can be helped with the insertion of artificial tears at least four times a day. If the dry eye is severe, the tear ducts may be closed with tiny silicone plugs. This is reversible. The other option is punctual cautery, which is a burning of the tear duct to close it. This is usually permanent.

Why Do Rosacea Sufferers Get The Wrong Treatment?

The common misconception is that rosacea of any kind is caused by abnormalities in the sebaceous glands and micro-organisms of the skin. The confusion arises because rosacea sufferers often have papules but they are not caused by the same things that cause acne papules. Rosacea papules arise as a result of repeated flushing of the skin. Acne can occur at the same time as rosacea, but the two are different conditions.

General physicians who believe that rosacea is a skin disease caused by bacteria often give their patients harsh medications (commonly benzyl peroxide) to clear facial micro-organisms, sebaceous glands and pores. This treatment would be suitable for true acne – but rosacea is not acne. It's a disorder of the blood vessels of the face. In most rosacea sufferers, facial micro-organisms and sebaceous glands are completely normal, and that is where the danger lies. In giving these people harsh, skin 'stripping' medications, their skin can become extremely sore and irritated.

Topical steroid creams that are indicated in the treatment of acne are often given to rosacea sufferers. These must not be used as they can make the skin very sensitive. Once the steroids are stopped, the skin may become even worse for a while as it is 'withdrawing' from the steroids.
